Mixed Reality UI

Product Design Lead

UI, iconography & branding — mixed reality digital twin collaboration platform

Overview

Altitude XR builds digital twins of physical sites, like plants, construction sites, and buildings, so remote teams can inspect and decide without traveling. The interface had to handle complex spatial tasks, stay readable over live 3D scenes, and work the same on every device.

I led the product's visual direction as its design lead, setting the UI, icon, and brand standards the team built on.

I designed the core UI framework around the platform's key actions: interact, annotate, measure, visualize, share, and connect. That included floating panels for meetings, maps, and layers, plus a tool dock for measuring, notes, capture, and view controls.

Meeting + Annotation Panels

Meetings, people, and notes open as floating panels over the live 3D scene, so teams keep their place in the model while they collaborate. Notes pinned to the model. Teams pin notes, tags, and to-dos directly to objects, add details and measurements, and share them with teammates, replacing screenshots lost in chat threads.

Built for 3D Space

One visual system for a spatial product. I crafted original iconography, intuitive UI elements, and a unified brand style that stays legible over busy, real-world 3D scenes, from pinned markers to status messages like "Changes saved." The framework supported interactions across PC, mobile, and VR, turning complex 2D challenges into interactive 3D models for collaborative, accessible virtual environments across industries.

Collaborative Site Walkthroughs

From invite to walkthrough. The meetings panel takes teams from hosting or joining a session, to inviting attendees and setting the agenda, to a live walkthrough with video, so remote participants can walk the site together and record decisions in the moment. Tested before it was built. Wireframes, high-fidelity designs, and functional prototypes went through stakeholder review and user testing, informed by competitive analysis.

Outcome

  • Usable on every device. Custom iconography and UI assets improved usability across PC, mobile, and VR.

  • A style guide that fit the brand. A flexible, visually engaging style guide aligned with Altitude XR's brand and user needs.

  • Better tools for remote teams. Note-sharing, interactive 3D visualizations, and quick switching between collaboration tools improved the experience for remote and hybrid teams.

  • Decisions without the site visit. Stakeholders could review complex projects remotely, speeding up decisions and reducing rework in construction and design.
